Finding A Great Auto Repair Shop
With so many different automotive repair shops out there, it is hard to know which one will best suit your needs. Here are a few things that you should look for when choosing your repair shop.
Customer Service
A great automotive repair shop should obviously offer great customer service. In a repair shop, this means, first and foremost, listening to the customer. The customer generally knows their car far better than anyone else, so it's a good bet that they will be an excellent source of information to help get the car fixed and back on the road as soon as possible. So many repair shops develop a "know it all" attitude that is both totally unnecessary and counterproductive.
Great customer service also includes knowing when to follow the manufacturer's maintenance schedule, and when to go that extra mile, giving your car an edge that can only come from being maintained by someone who knows cars. For example, oil changes are best done at the intervals suggested by the car's manufacturer. Except in extreme conditions, changing the oil any more often is unnecessary, and any less often can lead to harm to the engine. However, very few car manufacturers suggest flushing the brake system. Although a car can go for years with the same brake fluid, condensation will eventually cause it to become contaminated, making the brake fluid a catalyst for rust, instead of protecting against it like it should. That is why flushing the brake fluid should be considered mandatory on any vehicle that you plan to keep around for a while.
Community Ties
When an automotive repair shop takes a stake in the community, you know they mean business. Getting to know community leaders and becoming involved in community events shows that the owners of the shop have pride in their fellow citizens. The more the shop loves the community, the more they are going to take care of it, both in charity works and car maintenance.
Honesty
There is no overstating how important honesty is when dealing with auto repair and maintenance. People depend on their mechanic to be straightforward with them, fair with their pricing, and always on top of any upcoming maintenance issues. Honesty goes hand in hand with community ties. A dishonest auto repair shop will have a hard time building a relationship with the community.
